The Best Way to Get a Pet Cat if You've Never Had One Before

Have you always desired a cat but never had the opportunity to have one? Maybe your parents were anti-pet-in-the-house? Or maybe you have never had the space or time for now?

If that's you and all of a sudden, circumstances have changed and you find yourself on the search for a pet kitten, here are a handful of suggestions for total cat noobs!

Firstly, Cats Are Costly

Cats are the absolute greatest, no two ways about it. But make no mistake, they are high-maintenance animals. So be prepared to lose a chunk of your money for things like cat food, cat toys, cat litter, cat wipes, cat equipment such as food dishes, litter boxes, cat trees, and, of course, vet expenses. So make sure you know what you're getting into before you bring your new animal pet home.

Second, Cats Are Like Kids with ADHD

Cats are pretty much like kids. They require you to spend time with them every day to amuse them, groom them, wipe them if they get filthy, feed them, make sure they don't eat too quickly and vomit their food, make sure they don't steal food from each other (if you have more than one!).
Cats become "Zoomy" if they haven't let their energy out, and they will sprint about frantically in the middle of the night if you haven't given them their playtime! That's why if you are a busy working person and don't believe you will be able to play a lot with your cat, maybe buy two so they can chase one another!
And just like a baby, a cat's demands will vary as they grow up, from charming tiny furball kittens to adult cats. Make sure you know what your cat needs at each stage. This covers things like the kind of cat food, the quantity they should consume each day and how many times, immunizations, and worm and flea treatments. Make sure you are with a reputable vet who you can contact and ask when you're not sure.

Third, Cats Have Personalities

Cats are full of personality and no two cats are the same. Some cats are forceful and affectionate and will cuddle up to everyone. Whereas some cats may attach to one person alone and be exceedingly devoted to him or her, they are intensely wary of anybody else.

They may also vocalize and act differently when they wish to communicate with you. I have two cats and one of them meows for her food and when she needs a door to open she will scratch. The other cat will chirp for her meal and wait for the door to open!

Fourth, Cats Are Independent

If you're thinking about purchasing a kitten, congrats! It feels fantastic to grow up with your cat and witness her in all her stages. But you should realize that the affectionate kitten who constantly followed you around when she was little can evolve into an independent lady cat that needs her own space and beauty naps!

Fifth, Cats Need To Be Spayed

One of the most unpleasant things about owning a cat is the choice to neuter it. Cat neutering or spaying is a choice you will come across sooner or later, and sooner is preferable as it's simpler if you choose to spay her to do it before her first heat. On the other hand, if you decide not to neuter, you need to worry about prospective kittens. Whatever you select, make sure you go into it with your eyes open.

Sixth, Cats Shed A LOT Of Furs

Cats shed. A large quantity So be prepared for your cleaning effort to rise and make sure you've invested in a decent vacuum and some grooming equipment that can help you stay on top of your cats' shedding. Grooming helps get rid of any loose hair on the cat and also if done positively, maybe a bonding moment between you and your cat.
